The following information is a list of Program guidelines provided by the Ohio Department of Development to assist contractors/appliance Installers in implementing the Ohio Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program. It is required that all contractors and appliance installers participating in the Program are aware of, and implement, the following expectations.
General:
- Display a printed, legible copy of the current list of United States Department of Energy (DOE) approved ENERGY STAR® appliances (refrigerators, clothes washers, dishwashers, high-efficiency gas storage water heaters, electric heat pump water heater) eligible for rebates - List can be found at www.OhioApplianceRebate.com.
- Properly identify the rebate value for each eligible appliances.
- Provide consumers sales receipts as proof of purchase. Consumers will need to provide proof of purchase to claim their rebates.
- Contractor / Appliance Installer Employees:
- Provide employees with information on the Ohio Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program.
- Have employees remind consumers that, in order to receive a rebate, consumers must purchase a new appliance for the purpose of replacing an old appliance.
- Have employees verify with the consumer that the product being purchased is a qualified model eligible for a rebate.
- Have employees inform consumers of available delivery and haul-away services provided by Contractor/Appliance Installer and assist consumers with arrangements for haul-away of old appliance.
Marketing and Outreach:
- Provide a link on Contractor’s or Appliance Installer’s website (if applicable) to the Ohio Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program website - www.OhioApplianceRebate.com.
- Include the following information on all marketing material:
- Program Dates
- Start date (for all appliances) - Late March 26, 2010
- Website address - www.ohioappliancerebate.com
- Correct title of the program - Ohio Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program
- Ohio Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program Logo
- List of appliance types that are eligible for rebate with rebate values (include only those appliances in Contractor’s/Appliance Installer’s inventory).
- Refrigerators - $100
- Clothes washers - $150
- Dishwashers - $100
- High-efficiency gas storage water heater - $100
- Electric heat pump water heater - $250
Delivery and Haul-Away:
- Provide consumers the option for delivery and haul-away services with purchase of qualified appliances bought by the consumer during the program effective dates.
- Provide consumers, at the time of haul-away, a receipt verifying that old unit was hauled away for recycling. If contractor/appliance installer does not currently have a receipt, a template can be found at www.OhioApplianceRebate.com.
Recycling:
- Do not resell collected, used appliances.
- Haul-away 100% of used appliances replaced as part of the Ohio Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program, and ensure they are recycled of properly.
- Old appliances must be de-manufactured so they are rendered permanently inoperable and processed through a recycling facility.
- All hazardous materials must be handled in accordance with federal, state, and local laws.

All recyclable material should be sorted and reprocessed into raw materials for future use.
Appliance Eligibility:
Refrigerators - Only ENERGY STAR® qualified refrigerators
Clothes Washers - Only ENERGY STAR® qualified clothes washers certified from July 7, 2009 to present, subject to any updates provided by ENERGY STAR®.
Dishwashers - Only ENERGY STAR® qualified dishwashers certified from August 11, 2009 to present, subject to any updates provided by ENERGY STAR®.
High-efficiency gas storage water heaters - Only ENERGY STAR® qualified high-efficiency gas storage water heater certified from January 1, 2009 to present, subject to any updates provided by ENERGY STAR®.
Electric heat pump water heaters - Only ENERGY STAR® qualified electric heat pump water heaters.
